Current music:Moloko - Fun For Me

I have an almost unbearable urge to build shelving and book cases. And paint my apartment. And go over my kitchen, put in new cupboards, fix up all storage and space problems, install a table which can fold down against the wall.

Build coffee tables and side tables and paint and stain everything to my liking.. not to mention ripping up this carpet.

Live the Ikea dream, bathed in sawdust.

I feel as though this apartment is going to waste, not being outfitted to it's full potential.

Help.

Me too, except I've got a little more space to work with than you. Guh, if I had free rein and weren't expected to keep everything exactly the same as it was when we moved in... I'd have a big wall of storage in the loungeroom and the brick would be plastered over and the kitchen would be refitted and everything would get a coat of paint. I'd get rid of a lot of carpet... I hate the carpet in this place... Argh! You have re-awoken my inner renovator-decorator! Curse you!

Actually, your kitchen... I'd probably move the cupboards, from the I-shape along the outer wall, to a L-shape, which would create just a bit more room, and the fridge and rubbish would not be sticking out on their own like that... enough space for a cute little cafe table and chairs. Folding chairs, they'd slot in a convenient section of cupboard somewhere.

The living area, the heater is in a bad spot. I'd be juggling the tv and seating... and trying not to upset the view.
Guh. Want. To. Make. Furniture. [gurgle]

I'm toying with ideas for the kitchen at the moment. L-shape at least - the stove is in the stupidest position. It could be arranged so much better than it is at the moment. Even just extending the bench/cupboards around a corner would help so much. Barely any bench space and storage space is iffy. And yes.. chairs that can be folded away. And table also - even if I didn't eat in there (I wouldn't), it'd be more bench space.

The living room.. I'd keep as is, actually. You're right about the heater. I'd put in higher bookcases along the wall where the ones I have sit.. all the way across. And more shelving to the right of my computer.. that's a space going to waste completely.

It's so bloody frustrating. I want to call up the real estate agents and demand a new kitchen. And bathroom. With a bigger bath and counter/cupboards around the basin. And a coat of paint.

Waah.

Why do you think my dream is having my own house? So everything will be just how I think it should be!

I think you'd sit at the little table in the kitchen and read when you aren't feeling internetty. [Pffft :P] Well, if you had a lovely kitchen, as opposed the "just a kitchen" space you have now, you'd maybe want to spend a bit more time in there...

I like eating at the dinner table, even if I share the space with the spare computer... have been keeping the table at least half-cleared and actually having sit-down dinners when I can. It's purely psychological, but I feel more satisfied if I sit down to eat, and only eat, maybe talk, when it's meal time... as opposed to watching TV in between mouthfuls, or reading my friends page...

I'm gonna learn to do all that Handy-Andy stuff one of these days.

Hmm.. I might. Actually, what I'd really like is to have a vase with flowers in it on the kitchen table. Heh.

I might sit down and have a bowl of cereal and some toast and read the paper at the table. Yes.

Gah. I'm hating this place so much at the moment.

Well, you can hate my place for a few days, soon. Yaaay!

I like the idea of having birds of paradise at the table.

That's what I meant about a room full of flowers - many birds of paradise.

Hmm. There were some small ones down at the park that I noticed while I was walking home. Would I go to hell for taking them?

Probably.

And I wouldn't be hating your place - I'll be envious. :)

There are some really ugly flowers out there, you know that? I love... birds of paradise, passion-fruit flowers, irises, fuschia, big stupid naive poppies and daisies and gerbera... heh. Plants that look like sticks with a big blobby flower at the end...

Last time you nicked plants you got sick. Leave it alone! :P You'll get Lyme Disease or something next time!

Ahh yes, envious of my house, with all the hair-rats on the carpet, the kitchen full of filthy dishes, and a bedroom overflowing with snotty tissues.

...

Crap, I better tidy up.

There really are. I absolutely loathe sunflowers. *nod*

And yes, envious of your house. It's a good house. Heh.

Sunflowers... I had a couple of them in a vegie garden when I was 6 or 7 years old, I found them really fascinating at the time because of the way the flowers move to track the sun... I love seeing time-lapse photography of plants growing, flowers blooming, seeds sprouting, all that stuff. But yes, sunflowers... they've slipped into the realm of country cottage kitchen kitsch.

Sarah says that she feels really comfortable here, too. It was almost what you said, word for word, the first time you stayed here, which was just... freaky.

It must be the high ceilings!

Hmm.. hammer... :)

Saw?

I saw some wood left out by the street that I want to make a drop leaf wall mounted table for the kitchen with.

I'm rather good with the building things too.. just lack tools.
